Implementation

We follow the National Curriculum’s main stages of design, make and evaluate. We also place equal emphasis on technical knowledge and Cooking and Nutrition. Teachers have access to many resources, though we do not follow a scheme specifically, we gather resources and ideas from many sources to inform our planning. Each year, a class completes three Design and Technology units and these alternate between year groups to ensure they are revisited. These are: structures, textiles, food, electrical and mechanisms. Our Design and Technology is evidenced in our science book due to the strong links between the subjects. Teachers incorporate a range of teaching strategies including independent tasks, paired or group work, practical activities, using ICT and design tasks. Children are well supported in lessons through differentiate so that every child has an equal opportunity to access the learning.
