Year 6

Welcome to year 6! The class teacher in year 6 is Miss Blackaby. The learning support assistant is Mrs McInally. 

 

PE is on a Tuesday.

 

Summer 1

 

Our topic this half term is 'How do volcanoes affect the lives of people on Hiemay?' We will be learning about some of the key physical processes that shape the Earth and how people interact with these processes by studying a particular location. In English, we will be concluding work with our book, Pig Heart Boy and will be beginning to read The Sleeper and The Spindle by Neil Gaiman, exploring alternative version to traditional fairy tales. 

Spring 2

 

Our topic this half term is, 'How did a pile of dragon bones help to solve and Ancient Chinese mystery?' We will be learning about the rise and fall of the Shang Dynasty, what is known about it and its impact on the world. 

We will be continuing to read our class book, Pig Heart Boy and will then complete some writing linked to our previous science topic, animals including humans. 

Spring 1

 

Our topic this half term is, 'Why is fair trade fair?' We will be researching what is not fair about trade and how large companies aim to correct this. You will see the outcome of our work in our class assembly at the end of the half term. 

Our English book is Pig Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman to link to our science topic of animals including humans. 

Autumn 2

 

This half term, the topic is 'Why did the Ancient Maya change the way they lived?' We will be learning about who the Maya were and what happened to cause their decline. 

Our class book is Darwin's Dragons to link to our science topic of evolution and inheritance. 

Autumn 1

 

This half term, we are learning about how climate change is affecting the world and looking at how we can contribute to positive change. 

Our class books are In Our Hands by Lucy Farfort and The Last Wild by Piers Torday
